Final touches are underway at 22 Light Street in the Inner Harbor of Baltimore, Maryland.  22 Light Street will serve as an affordable residence, with a nine percent tax credit, to downtown Baltimore.

The project is an adaptive reuse of the historic Lanahan Building, which was built in 1901 and reconstructed in 1906 after the The Great Baltimore Fire of 1904.  The Lanahan Building was once the headquarters and distillery for Hunter Baltimore Rye Whiskey, owned by William Lanahan & Sons.  After the distillery closed at the start of the prohibition, the Lanahan building served as the Baltimore Oriole Cafeteria, where meals were provided to Baltimoreans during the Great Depression.  Since it’s aid to citizens during the Great Depression, it has also been the home to many offices.  Now, the Lanahah building is once again re-adapted to serve forty families with affordable housing in downtown Baltimore.
Last week, members of the Soto Team went to 22 Light Street to furnish and put a few final touches on the interiors, bringing the spaces to life.  The history of the building has greatly driven the redesign of this building, down to the art work.  It’s history  is present throughout all of the common spaces throughout the building, especially in the lobby, corridors, and community rooms.

"Working with the team to bring 22 Light Street Apartments to life was an amazing design experience! All the furniture, décor and artwork provided a high quality aesthetic to each public area of the building. I look forward to the residents hosting an event in the Hunter’s Rye Club and enjoying a drink while admiring the Baltimore inspired art pieces that decorate the walls."
                                        - Jennifer Castellanos, Project Coordinator + Interiors

The Soto team is looking forward to the opening of this unique project and to see the spaces come to life when future residents occupy the building.  22 Light Street may be taking on a new life, however, it’s previous lives will never be lost.
